Chamber Music

Come and play string quartets, quintets sextet etc. in a friendly environment, with exciting opportunities to improve your playing and ensemble skills. The new London String Players provides opportunities for amateur and semi-professional musicians to meet and play in a friendly and non pressurised environment, meet other like minded musicians and improve their skills. It’s a chance to widen your knowledge of chamber music repertoire and experience.

First quartetThere are regular weekly evening sessions where the chamber music groups meet in a pleasant residential house near Finchley Central tube station. The groups are organized and coached by Dorit Lichtenstern. Care is taken to match the players into groups of their appropriate playing standards. The quartets range from grade 3 to professional standard.

Admission is by individual application at any time of the year and acceptance depends on availability of a place in an ensemble of appropriate playing standard. Sometimes it may mean waiting for the right quartet to have an opening but it is all very flexible and open to changes.

A small but well-stocked music library is kept at the house and parts can be booked out to individuals for private practice at home.

In addition to the chamber groups, there are opportunities to arrange private violin or viola lessons and whole-day technique workshops are run from time to time, covering specific areas of violin and viola technique.
